Nature PROGRAMS
NEW NATURE PROGRAMS COMING SOON!
We are working on all the good stuff… nature related, of course. Stream exploration, family hikes, special visitors, garden planting, and so much more. Watch for more information to be released soon.
DISCOVERY BACKPACKS
Starting Friday, June 19, families can explore the outdoors in a whole new way with our NEW Nature Discovery Backpack Program! Designed for curious kids, families, and nature lovers of all ages, these FREE backpacks are packed with hands-on activities, nature tools, books, guides, and fun discoveries to help you slow down and explore the world around you.
Whether you’re walking the Nature PlayTrail, relaxing under the pavilion, sitting on a picnic blanket in the grass, or exploring open areas throughout the park, these backpacks are meant to turn an ordinary park visit into a mini outdoor adventure!
Each backpack focuses on a different theme, including:
• Turtles
• Butterflies & Pollinators
• Trees
• Park Discovery
Inside you may find things like:
🔍 magnifiers
📚 nature books
📝 fold-out guides & identification cards
🐞 observation tools
🎨 nature journaling activities
…and more surprises to discover!
A few important things families should know:
• Backpacks are for use at Freedom Park only and must stay on the park side of the bridge (please do not bring them to the beach/lake area).
• Everything inside must be returned at the end of your visit so future families can enjoy them too!
• If any nets or tools get wet, please leave them out of the backpack when returning them so the books and materials stay clean and dry.
• Backpacks are available on a first come, first served basis during lake operating hours.
• A driver’s license is required to sign one out and will be returned when the backpack is checked back in.
We’ll be sharing sneak peeks of the backpack contents soon — and once the program launches, we’d LOVE to capture photos of families exploring with them throughout the park!
This program is perfect for younger explorers and elementary-aged kids, but honestly… adults may find themselves just as fascinated by what’s inside!
