Here’s what you can expect from this growing annual community event:
Our MAKERS MARKET during our Fall Festival is a growing success! The main pavilion will be filled to the max with delicious homemade treats, along with beautiful handmade pottery, soaps, home decor, candles, artwork, stationary, bird houses, ceramics, photography, wood art, knits, macrame and so much more! The perfect time for the community to get a jump on holiday shopping… we expect Fall as well as Holiday and general items!

It's National Play Outside Day! What is National Play Outside Day?

On the first Saturday of the month, everybody in the nation plays outside. This includes kids, parents, adults, families and grandparents. There are no scheduled events or activities, just go outside and do something fun with your friends and family. Mark it on the calendar for the rest of the year so you don't forget and make it a monthly tradition!

Why play outside?

😊Develop a lifetime habit of physical activity
🙃Keep health and exercise a priority

😎Enjoy the beauty of nature

Why have people stopped playing outside?
😜There is a ton of cool stuff inside (video games, TV, computers, toys......).
😝It's different than when we were kids. Parents had to yell for kids to come in, now some parents have to yell to get kids to go outside.
🤪We get busy with the other things we need to do, and don't make it a priority.
🤨The news media has scared us about being outside.
😛It is up to parents to encourage and plan outdoor activities.

🌳Playing outside is a choice. It takes a little effort, like putting shoes on. But once you are outside, it's worth it.🌳

We invite all businesses, organizations, groups, teams, and individuals to participate in our Festival of Lights Parade on Saturday, November 30th at 6:30 PM. This is your chance to shine bright and showcase your creativity!

⛷ LaGrange Ski Club 🏂 is returning this year with discounted ski and snowboard packages from Thunder Ridge Ski Area! Spaces are limited and go quickly so stay tuned for more information and sign up dates!

Join us, along with the LaGrange Conservation Advisory Council, and Paul Doherty, Recreation Advisory Board Member, for this special hike/walk at Red Wing Recreation Area in LaGrangeville! Come for a pre-hike social with light refreshments at 6pm and the hike will begin PROMPTLY at 6:30pm from Paul's driveway on Velie Road. The hike follows the Red Wing Lake Trail to the Stream Trail, a 1.5 mile full loop. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp, and dress according to weather conditions.

Attendance for this event is by REGISTRATION ONLY at www.lagrangeparksandrec.com beginning Tuesday, October 8th at 9am. PARKING IS LIMITED and only cars registered for the event will be allowed in parking areas.

An email will be sent to all registrants prior to the event with parking instructions and meeting spot. In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled; please watch our Facebook page for cancellation notice. Hike will begin promptly at 6:30pm.

The LaGrange Festival of Lights Parade will be here before we know it and we want your creativity and holiday spirit to make it truly magical! 🌟

We’re calling on all local businesses, organizations, municipalities, teams, groups, and individuals to join us in kicking off the holiday season! If you have an idea for a fabulous float, a unique mobile light display, or a decorated vehicle, we want YOU to be part of the parade! Let’s come together to create an unforgettable evening filled with laughter, lights, and holiday cheer! ✨

📍 Where: Route 55, front of AHS, heading west, ending Freedom Plains round-about
⏰ Time: 6:30 PM

🌧️ Rainy Day Adventures 🌧️

Is the rain dampening your spirits? Let’s embrace it instead! Grab your rain boots and get ready for some splash-tastic fun outdoors. Here are a few fun activities to enjoy in those lovely puddles...

1. Boat Races
What You Need: Small, lightweight boats (made from leaves, corks, foil, or paper)
How to Play: Make your boats and race them across the puddles!

2. Puddle Jumping
What You Need: Just your rain boots (and maybe some friends)!
How to Play: See who can make the biggest splash! Set up some fun challenges, like jumping from one puddle to another or creating obstacle courses with your puddles.

3. Critter Hunt
What You Need: Small, lightweight boots.
How to Play: Explore your neighborhood or local park searching for critters that are likely to come out in the rain… frogs, worms, snails, insects, birds, etc.

* Safety First! Make sure to keep an eye out for any areas that may be unsafe due to heavy rain or flooding. *

Stuck inside or not feeling up to getting wet? Make a simple rain gauge together! What You’ll Need:
A clear plastic bottle or a jar
A ruler
Permanent marker or tape
Scissors

Instructions:
1. Prepare Your Container: If you’re using a plastic bottle, cut the top off and invert it into the bottom half to create a funnel. If you’re using a jar, just leave it as is!
2. Mark the Measurements: Use the ruler to measure and mark every inch on the side of your container with a permanent marker or tape. This will help you track the rainfall.
3. Place Your Rain Gauge: Set your rain gauge outside in an open area, away from trees or buildings that could obstruct the rain. You can use a small rock at the bottom to weigh it down if it’s windy.
4. Record the Rainfall: After the rain, check your gauge and measure how much rain collected. It’s a fun way to learn about weather patterns!
5. Discuss: Use this opportunity to talk about the water cycle, the importance of rain, and how weather affects our parks and community.

We remain in the very early stages here in the Hudson Valley but when our time comes... our parks EXPLODE with color and we can't wait! We're partnering with LaGrange Conservation Advisory Council for this special full moon hike in Freedom Park tomorrow, 9/17, at 7:30pm! The September moon will be the Harvest Moon and bonus... it's a supermoon!

We're taking a different path from our spring hike to better view the moon! We'll hike around the lake while admiring the moon's reflection then head toward the clearing near the small pavilion. If the clouds cooperate, it should be ideal viewing!
This hike is for ages 10+. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp, and dress according to weather conditions.
